I watched the Clickbust launch today. It's one of those things you see coming but still surprises you when it actually lands. The premise is simple: a tool that strips the bullshit out of headlines and tells you what the article actually contains. No more "you won't believe what happened next" when the answer is obvious.
What caught me was the response. People are angry about it. Not because it doesn't work, but because it works too well. One guy on the thread said it ruined his morning scroll. He meant that as a criticism. I took it as an endorsement.
The thing about clickbait is that we all hate it but we all fall for it. That's the trick. Your brain knows the headline is garbage but your finger still taps. Clickbust removes that gap. It shows you the plain text version before you waste time. Some people feel exposed. They don't want to admit they'd click the stupid headline. So they attack the messenger.
I think that's exactly why it matters. Any tool that makes you uncomfortable about your own habits is probably doing something right. The launch numbers were solid. The backlash was predictable. And the product did exactly what it said on the tin. That's rare enough to notice.
