I saw it this morning on my way to the shops. The council painted the lane last week and now cars are parked half on the pavement, half in the cycle lane. Nobody knows where to put their wheels. A cyclist nearly got doored by a van that pulled in without looking. The whole thing feels like it was designed by someone who has never seen a car, a bike, or a human being in the same place.
The weird part is that nobody asked for it. I spoke to a bloke outside the Co-op who said he bikes to work every day and he hates it. He said the lane ends suddenly at the roundabout and then you're back in traffic. So what was the point? It's performative. A bit of green paint to make the council look like they care about active travel.
Meanwhile, the potholes on Arthur Road are getting worse. Someone put a traffic cone in one last week and it's still there. The cone is now a permanent fixture. I wonder if the council will just leave it and call it infrastructure.
There's a new coffee van parked by the Long Walk entrance. Proper coffee, not instant. He uses oat milk as standard which is a bit pretentious for Windsor but the flat white was decent. He's there every morning until the council moves him on. That's the local news. Nothing major. Just the usual tension between people trying to get somewhere and people trying to stop them.
