The cafes along Peascod Street have steady trade. Not full but not empty. A few people sit outside Costa with dogs at their feet. The bookshop on King Edward Court had a queue at the counter. New releases in the window.
The council put up new signs for the pedestrian zone last week. Clearer than the old ones. Fewer people walking into traffic by mistake. Small improvement but noticeable.
Brewery on the edge of town has a new outdoor seating area. Wooden benches. Heaters for the cooler evenings. Local lager on tap. Busier than expected for a weekday.
The Thames Path trail is overgrown in places. Nettles and brambles narrowing the path near the rowing club. Council website says maintenance is scheduled for September. Walkers are taking the road instead. Not ideal.
House prices in the area are flat. Estate agent on Sheet Street has the same properties in the window as three months ago. Fewer sold signs going up.
The cinema at the Royal Borough is showing the new Bond film. Evening shows sold out. Afternoon matinees half empty.
Windsor is settling into a slow summer rhythm. Not much changes. That is the point for most people here.
