Things are changing around Windsor

29 August 2026

The new Lidl on Dedworth Road is finally open. It has been a long time coming. The car park is a mess still but the shelves are full and the prices are lower than Waitrose. That alone is a win for most of us.

Slough Trading Estate is getting busier. I see more vans with London plates parked up outside the new warehouses. The old Homebase site on the Bath Road has been cleared. Rumour is a data centre. Nobody has confirmed but the fencing is up and the groundworks have started.

The train station is still a problem. Late trains most evenings. The Elizabeth Line has not fixed the reliability issue for Windsor. You still have to change at Slough to get anywhere fast. The taxi rank is often empty when you need it most.

The parkrun at Windsor Great Park is growing. Almost 400 runners last Saturday. The car park at the Savill Building was full by 8.45am. If you want to park close, get there early or cycle.

Local shops are closing. The hardware store on St Leonard's Road shut last month. Another charity shop opened instead. The high street is tilting further towards coffee and secondhand clothes. It is hard to buy a hinge or a proper spade within walking distance now.
